Register
1st Step:
Report Pertinent Information - Texas Teachers must have your completed application, transcripts, and personal information, including:
- Legal Name (must match exactly what you give the state)
- Social Security number
- Date of Birth
- Email Address
- Test(s) you are interested in taking
If you do not have a U.S. Social Security number, you will need to get a temporary PIN number from the State (TEA) to use in place of it. Click here for more details. Texas Teachers needs to know this PIN number.
2nd Step:
Get TEA ID# - You must set up an account with the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). Select "Candidate Participating in Educator Preparation Program" under "Application Applying For." Once you have set up the account, you will immediately receive your TEA ID number.
Note: You do not need to apply for your probationary or other certificates until you are hired as a teacher of record. Return to our website for step 3.
For more detailed instructions on setting up a New Educator SBEC Online Account click here.
3rd Step:
Register for the Exam - You must also set up a different account with ETS/ Testing Administrator. This will allow you to access the testing site and register for test(s). You will need your TEA ID number.
Problems with Registration
1. If you have trouble registering, or if the error message says your information does not match, we need to confirm your:
- a. Date of Birth
- b. Social Security Number
- c. Email Address
- d. Name used with state
Note: The information you give the state in the above fields must match exactly what you give us. If the information does not match, you will not be able to register for any tests.
2. We can help you understand the process to get your TEA ID #, and then give you the test registration instructions.
Here are some common problems:
Problem #1: If the test you are registering for does not appear for selection, you will need to contact Texas Teachers to check what tests you have been approved to take.
Problem #2: If the test date you want does not appear, you will need to select another testing location, because the site is full. Note: You may have better results by choosing another city.
After that - you must contact the state (or the Testing Administrator) for further help.
Note: We recommend registering for the test as soon as possible.
